MULTILINGUALISM AS A KEY COMPETENCE IN THE GLOBALIZED WORLD: EDUCATIONAL INCLUSION, INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION, AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY

In an increasingly interconnected world, multilingualism has become an important competence for education, professional development, intercultural communication, and social participation. The ability to use several languages enables individuals to access diverse sources of knowledge, communicate across cultural boundaries, and participate in international academic and professional environments. However, multilingualism should not be understood exclusively as the ability to speak multiple languages. It also involves the social, educational, and cultural conditions that determine how languages are learned, valued, and used. This article examines multilingualism as a key competence in the globalized world through a critical analysis of relevant academic literature and international educational policy documents. Particular attention is given to multilingual education, intercultural communicative competence, linguistic inclusion, and the educational context of Uzbekistan. Existing research indicates that multilingual learning experiences are closely connected with language-learning motivation, cultural attitudes, and students' educational opportunities, although claims about universal cognitive advantages require caution. The article argues that educational institutions should promote balanced multilingual development through inclusive language policies, culturally responsive teaching, and opportunities for meaningful communication. It also identifies practical implications for universities seeking to prepare students for international academic and professional environments.
