Factors Associated with Respiratory Disorders (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Among Workers at Tawaqal Wood Factory, Tanjung Morawa, in 2026

Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted at Tawaqal Wood Factory, Tanjung Morawa, from January to June 2026. The study population consisted of 60 workers, with total sampling as the sampling technique, involving all workers as respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering age, length of employment, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, smoking habits, and respiratory disorders (COPD). Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). Results: The findings showed significant associations between age (p-value = 0.042), length of employment (p-value = 0.022), PPE use (p-value = 0.025), and smoking habits (p-value = 0.000) with respiratory disorders (COPD) among workers. Conclusion: Age, length of employment, PPE use, and smoking habits were associated with respiratory disorders (COPD) among workers at Tawaqal Wood Factory, Tanjung Morawa. Controlling wood dust exposure, improving PPE compliance, and providing smoking cessation education are needed to prevent occupational respiratory disorders.
