On the Cyril and Methodius Tradition in the Italian Environment of Slovak Exile as Reflected in the Contemporary Press (Especially of the Periodical Press Voices from Rome)

The heritage and tradition of Sts. Cyril and Methodius assumed a particular significance in the period after the Second World War, especially after the February 1948 in Czechoslovakia, where the rise of the regime led to the open persecution of churches. Hopes for the continuation of the legacy of Sts. Cyril and Methodius were especially evident in Slovak emigration to the USA, Canada and Italy. One of the most important expatriate periodicals, which reflected the situation in Czechoslovakia, but at the same time presented information from the free world, was the monthly Voices from Rome. In addition to the plethora of information and subjects in its pages, the frequent and popular topic of the heritage and legacy of Cyril and Methodius was no exception. The authors of the presented study, based on an analysis of articles published in the periodical Voices from Rome during the first ten years of its operation, conclude that the Cyril and Methodius idea was permeating the life of Slovak emigration in Rome in its full force.
