The Ordonian Calculus and the IMS: Stewardship, Agency, and the Economy of Information in The Systems Experiment

Agency and Stewardship theories can be used to describe how we understand the relationship between delegates and delegators, both in the corporate world, in volunteer spaces, and in The Systems Event. We can understand how the lack of a clear framework, compounding issues from the organization of the event, and player siloing worked against the desired goals of the event. This essay draws on first-hand experiences and accounts from related essays, tracing how two competing teams diverged and were impacted during the events Exploration and Exploitation time frame, largely from the Ordonian perspective. “The Ordonian Calculus” is posed as a phenomenological analysis of social and systemic risks and anticipations, and their effects on team cohesion. The essay also proposes an Agency Theory of Minecraft, arguing that the default singleplayer design leaves multiplayer environments particularly exposed to agentic, exploitative play absent of deliberate design intervention, and offers guidance for future IMS events.
