Carbon neutrality in industrial sectors taking the economic component into account
Subject. Carbon neutrality. Objectives. To examine the economic interrelations in the context of carbon neutrality when investing at various stages of the production cycle – from raw material transportation to the direct manufacturing of finished products – using the example of three industrial sectors: gas, chemical, and nuclear. Methods. The study employs methods of logistics, statistical, and mathematical analysis, as well as comparison of the obtained data. Results. Structural schemes of carbon neutrality for the gas, chemical, and nuclear sectors have been proposed. An assessment is provided of the impact of greenhouse gas costs, taking into account their percentage share, on the product cost in the chemical sector. The main directions for achieving carbon neutrality with minimal economic impact on the sector within the life cycle have been developed. Economic indicators are presented regarding the markup on the cost of greenhouse gas emissions and the payback periods when this markup is included in the product cost. Conclusions. Determining the cost of large industrial projects with due regard to carbon neutrality requires further scientific research and development of the economic component of the methodology in industrial sectors to enhance competitiveness in global markets.
