Specialized training and preparation of midfielders in the process of sports selection and recruitment of soccer players

This article examines the tactical and strategic characteristics of the modern central defensive midfielder in soccer. Based on an analysis of key structural elements (organizing and directing play in defence and attack), as well as current scientific research, criteria for the athletic selection of highly skilled players in this position have been identified. It is shown that the effectiveness of a defensive midfielder depends on the balance between defensive and organizational functions, as well as on the player’s ability to integrate into various tactical and strategic models of play. In modern soccer, the role of players who play the position of central defensive midfielder in various approaches to effective play is key to ensuring a balance between defence and attack, organizing the playing field, and implementing the team’s tactical and strategic plans. During the game, the central defensive midfielder acts as the team’s "brain", coordinating actions between the lines, winning the ball, making passes in the necessary direction and at the appropriate pace, controlling the tempo of the game, and ensuring tactical and strategic flexibility. The effectiveness of the team’s actions – both in defence and on offense – depends on the skill level and athletic conditioning of the players in this position. The goal of this study is to theoretically justify, develop, and practically integrate a comprehensive multifactor system for sports selection and specialized training of central midfield football players.
