During the 1970s and 1980s, a segment of Faroese people became vegetarians, embraced health food practices, and promoted biodynamical agriculture, including the consumption of biodynamical goods. They founded the biodynamical store Spíran in 1983, organized health courses, and published a vegetarian cookbook in 1989. The trend connected concern with food, health and nature. The inspiration came particularly from Denmark, and this study examines the circulation of knowledge underlying the trend. The trend declined in visibility in early 1990s with the closure of Spíran in 1992. The downturn was linked to the economic crisis in the Faroe Islands in the early 1990s, in addition to some of the active members having died.
