Effectiveness of live-animal and environmental samples for detecting high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses in live-bird markets in Southeast Asia, 2015–2022
Avian influenza viruses (AIV) pose an ongoing threat to domestic poultry and wild birds.Live bird markets, common throughout Southeast Asia, are key locations for surveillance.Using latent-class models, we analysed multi-year surveillance data from Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Myanmar, and Vietnam to estimate AIV prevalence and evaluate the effectiveness of chicken, duck, and environmental faecal samples in detecting AIV subtypes in contaminated markets.Duck samples https://doi.org/10.1017/S0950268826102246
