Is Working from the Office Losing Its Magic? Organizational Identification and Organizationally Induced Identity Work
This study aims to reveal the relationship between work mode, organizational identification, and organizationally induced identity work using structural equation modeling.Data were collected from 216 employees through a survey, and one of the aims was to develop a set of exploratory items for work mode and organizationally induced identity work. The analyses reveal that organizational identification positively predicts organizationally induced identity work.It was found that organizational identification positively predicts positive evaluations of office work, but not positive evaluations of remote work.Findings also indicate that positive evaluations of remote work predict organizationally induced identity work. However, positive evaluations of office work do not predict organizationally induced identity work. The analyses also show that positive evaluations of office or remote work do not mediate the relationship between organizational identification and organizationally induced identity work. The research reveals that remote work is related to organizationally induced identity work, while office work is related to organizational identification.
