Applied physical training as a resource for developing the moral and volitional qualities of school students in the context of contemporary challenges

The full-scale war and the security threats associated with it have placed new demands on the education of school students. Under current conditions, particular importance is attached to individuals’ ability to regulate their emotions, overcome difficulties, act in accordance with moral values, and resist destructive influences. This reinforces the need for the purposeful development of moral and volitional qualities that enable constructive behaviour in challenging life situations. Such qualities include courage, moral and volitional resilience, determination, responsibility, and perseverance. The purpose of the article is to explore the educational potential of applied physical training and to substantiate the possibilities of using it to develop the moral and volitional qualities of school students in the context of contemporary challenges. The study establishes that the educational potential of applied physical training stems from its practical orientation. It highlights the importance of teamwork, competitive activities, and situations involving moral choice, in which students are expected to reconcile their personal intentions with the interests of others, comply with safety rules, assess risks, provide assistance, and select an appropriate course of action. It is substantiated that educational outcomes are facilitated by the gradual increase in task complexity, the individualisation of physical loads, the creation of choice-based situations, pedagogical guidance, and reflective interpretation of the experience gained. Particular emphasis is placed on adherence to the principles of physical and psychological safety, inclusivity, and student agency.
