Evaluación de los síntomas del tracto urinario inferior en pacientes con acromegalia: estudio en el Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, Ciudad de México

Objective: to determine if there is any relationship between acromegaly and the early development of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with serum levels of growth hormone. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted with approval from the local research committee. Urodynamic variables were compared with normal or elevated levels of growth hormone to assess their relationship. Age, diabetes, hypertension, body mass index, IPSS, maximum urinary flow, residual urine, and growth hormone level were considered. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (version 25) with Mann-Whitney U test (p < 0.05). Results: the study included 35 patients, with 19 men (54 %) and 16 women (46 %), with average ages of 57 and 54 years, respectively. The IPSS score was 8 (moderate) for men and 5 (mild) for women. The V/A index was 0.250 for men and 0.2 for women. The maximum urinary flow (QMAX) was 16.5 ml/s for men and 20.5 ml/s for women, while residual urine was 12.5 % for men and 8 % for women. Conclusion: uncontrolled acromegaly showed a lower incidence of lower urinary tract symptoms and better measurements (IPSS, Qmax, residual urine).
