The Interactive Thematic Analysis Network (TITAN): An Interactive Network Model for Deriving Quantitative Results From a Thematic Analysis
Many researchers have sought to integrate the interpretive depth of qualitative analysis with the analytical rigor of quantitative methods. We present The Interactive Thematic Analysis Network (TITAN), a novel software platform and methodological framework that extends completed thematic analyses through interactive network visualization and quantitative structural analysis. TITAN automatically transforms hierarchical qualitative coding outputs into multilevel node-and-edge networks, computes network metrics for excerpts, codes, themes, and higher-order groupings, and preserves direct traceability to the underlying qualitative evidence. The software was evaluated using a completed qualitative case study conducted for the U.S. Irregular Warfare Center (IWC), demonstrating automated transformation of thematic analysis outputs into an interactive network representation. We describe TITAN’s software architecture, analytical workflow, and analytical capabilities, showing how network science extends conventional thematic analysis by revealing structural relationships not readily identifiable using existing qualitative analysis software.
