Sonochemical synthesis of imine- and aminal-linked porous organic polymers for efficient CO2 separation

The practical deployment of porous organic polymers (POPs) in gas separation applications remains challenging, in large part due to the limited scalability and time-consuming nature of conventional solvothermal synthesis. Herein, we report a facile and scalable sonochemical approach for the synthesis of POPs from cost-effective monomers. The resulting materials exhibit high BET surface areas of up to 664 m2/g and good CO2 separation performance for both CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 mixtures. Scale-up to multigram quantities was achieved with a space-time yield more than 50-fold higher than that of conventional solvothermal synthesis. This study therefore provides a time-efficient and scalable synthetic strategy for highly porous POPs for gas separation.
