Assessment of the Acceptance of a specialized granulate blanket on patients with moderate to severe dementia and sleep disturbances

Dementia and sleep disturbances have a bidirectional relationship. Thus, it is even more important to improve night sleep in patients with dementia and sleep disturbances. Based on the theory of sensory integration, this study investigates the potential of granulate blankets to improve sleep. This preliminary study investigated the acceptability and safety of granular weighted blankets in patients with moderate to severe dementia and examines the influence of other factors on the acceptance like age, sex, dementia severity, and outdoor temperature. The results demonstrated generally good acceptability and a high level of safety. No statistically significant associations with the investigated factors were found. These findings support further investigation of granular blankets in a subsequent clinical study.
