Pavimentação asfáltica: patologia, prevenção e manutenção
This study aimed to investigate various forms of pavement distress that have affected asphalt over time—highlighting the need for maintenance—and to evaluate the importance of asphalt restoration. The objectives included: analyzing pavements and investigating their mechanical behavior and primary distress types; presenting concepts regarding the rehabilitation of flexible pavements made of Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Double Surface Treatment (DST); investigating the behavior and traffic conditions of a pavement undergoing deformation; studying the measurement of quality and functionality indices; and, finally, drawing conclusions about the potential causes of distress in HMA flexible pavements while proposing and describing repair methods. The issue at hand involves recognizing the distress manifestations documented in the literature, evaluating potential causes, and suggesting network improvements—whether through corrective maintenance or rehabilitation—to meet performance requirements effectively. In this context, the question arises: is it feasible to extend the service life of a pavement (whether rigid or flexible) through corrective maintenance? Which interventions can prolong its operational lifespan? Technical literature and other academic studies addressing the subject were consulted for this work. Relying on qualified professionals for both highway construction and maintenance is crucial, given the significant challenges and the large-scale, high-investment nature of these projects. This research contributes to an understanding of the importance of quality control for asphalt pavements, aiming to spark interest among new engineers in the field and thereby foster the advancement of new technologies.
