The PRISMA Statement in Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Entrepreneurship: A Systematic Literature and a Research Agenda

ABSTRACT This study systematically reviews research trends in sustainable entrepreneurship and environmental awareness using the PRISMA framework. Sustainable entrepreneurship integrates innovation and business strategies to achieve sustainable development by balancing economic and environmental objectives, while enhancing environmental awareness. A scoping review was conducted based on articles published between 2015 and 2024, retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science. Following a rigorous quality assessment, out of 99 initially identified eligible studies, 27 met the final inclusion criteria for in depth synthesis. The findings indicate that most studies employed quantitative methods, with companies serving as the primary sample units. Research has been predominantly conducted in European and other developed countries. The main disciplinary areas include business and economics, management, energy and fuels, and environmental science and ecology. Moving beyond descriptive trends, this review critically synthesizes the theoretical convergence surrounding the theory of planned behavior and value‐belief‐norm theory, while identifying the intention‐behavior gap as a major unresolved debate. This study outlines a comprehensive research agenda emphasizing cross cultural contextualization, multi‐level analytical frameworks, and the critical role of managerial cognition.
