Wind-energy expansion intensifies global forest fragmentation and biodiversity threats
The zip file contains global forest-based wind turbine location data and the code used to extract associated infrastructure, including WTI such as roads and foundations. GonshoreWTinForest.shp contains the global distribution of wind turbine locations within forested areas. GonshoreWTIinForestsExtract.txt contains the code used to identify wind turbine infrastructure, including access roads and associated facilities, within buffers surrounding forest-based wind turbines. The training samples were manually selected within buffers generated around the wind turbine locations in GonshoreWTinForest.shp. including WTnotRoadsSamples.shp and WTroadsSamples.shp. These samples were then used to train the classification model, which was subsequently applied to wind turbine buffers worldwide to delineate the spatial extent of wind turbine infrastructure. GonshoreWTIinForests_centerlines.shp contains the vector data representing the mapped WTI centerlines.
