Modeling Aircraft Wake Vortex Decay via the AMDCF Memory-Driven Flux Law (An Aerodynamic Application of Nonlinear Dynamics)
Aircraft wake vortices dictate airport separation minima and pose significant safety hazards. While high-fidelity 3D CFD simulations are computationally expensive, Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) offer a fast alternative for real-time control. In this paper, we apply the unified AMDCF (Adaptive Memory-Driven Coupling Framework) as an active flow control algorithm to model the decay of a wake vortex core within a 1D ROM framework. The model incorporates a non-Markovian memory kernel—acting as a delayed feedback controller—and an adaptive artificial viscosity (Subgrid-Scale modeling). The dynamic safety valve acts as a bounded stabilization controller, filtering out unphysical high-frequency stochastic noise. Results demonstrate that the AMDCF kernel successfully enforces a smooth, monotonic energy dissipation compared to uncontrolled stochastic fluctuations. This study highlights the framework's potential for stabilizing complex aerodynamic ROMs.
