The Gemeyne Bicht represents a Counter-Reformation text, conceived as an entertaining play. An interdisciplinary subject emerges by three songs that are set in the context of a wedding ceremony. The plot is closely connected to the history of the city of Soest; beyond the histori-cal parallels the songs also open up a new perspective on the author, who is hidden behind the pseudonym of the biblical Daniel. An examination of the intertextual references can help to find out which songs and song motifs circulated in the 16th century and against which educa-tional background the author is to be located.
