Prevalence of Menstrual Problems and Remedial Measures Adopted by Adolescent Girls in a Selected Rural Area of Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh

Background: Menstrual health problems, particularly dysmenorrhea and menstrual cycle irregularities, pose substantial physical, academic, and psychosocial challenges to adolescent girls in rural India, where management is often constrained by cultural silence, limited healthcare access, and household economic limitations.  Objectives: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of menstrual problems and menstrual health practices among adolescent girls in a selected rural area of Kuppam, identify the remedial measures adopted for menstrual pain, and evaluate associations between menstrual problems and selected socio-demographic variables.  Methods: A community-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 89 post-menarcheal adolescent girls aged 10 to 19 years residing in two rural villages (Gonuguru and Vendugampalli) in Kuppam Mandal, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh. Data on socio-demographic profiles, baseline menstrual characteristics, symptom burden, self-care remedial practices, and post-remedy outcomes were collected through face-to-face interviews using a validated structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Chi-Square tests were performed using SPSS Version 23.
