The Architecture of the White Path: Classical Cherokee Peace Towns, Sacred Sanctuary, and the Revitalized Ecology of the Sunray Peace Village

This monograph presents a systematic anthropological, legal, and contemplative investigation into the classical governance architecture of Cherokee Peace Towns (White Towns / Unega) and their contemporary institutional revitalization in the Sunray Peace Village model established by Venerable Khandro Dhyani Ywahoo in Lincoln, Vermont. Synthesizing eighteenth-century ethnohistorical records (Timberlake, Bartram, Adair), structural anthropology (Fred Gearing's dual structural oscillation), and Cherokee legal history (John Phillip Reid, Rennard Strickland) with contemporary trans-lineage contemplative science, the study examines three central institutional axes: Classical Dual-Polarity Governance and Spatial Archetypes: The seasonal and structural oscillation between the peacetime White Organization (led by the Uku / Peace Chief, Council of Clan Elders, and the Ghigau / Beloved Women) and the crisis Red Organization (Giga, led by the War Chief / Skayagustu). We detail the sacred layout of the Heptagonal Council House, where the Seven Clans (Anidawehi) sit along seven peripheral walls around the perpetual Sacred Hearth (Atsila Galvkwdi) in non-hierarchical consensus deliberation. The Mechanics of Inviolable Sanctuary: The spatial jurisprudence of Chota (Echota) on the Little Tennessee River as a sacred City of Refuge. Under the metaphysical prohibition of bloodshed on white ground, Chota operated as an automatic legal circuit-breaker against the inter-clan duty of blood revenge (Asungv), providing absolute physical immunity, disarmament, and a transition to restorative mediation overseen by the Beloved Women. The Sunray Peace Village Synthesis: The 1987 revitalization on Odali Utugi (Mount Abraham, Green Mountains of Vermont) by Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo, 27th generation holder of the Ywahoo Clan lineage. Held in perpetuity by the Sunray Peace Village Land Trust, the sanctuary synthesizes the ancient Cherokee Wisdom Fire with Tibetan Vajrayana (Nyingma Dzogchen and Drikung Kagyu, authorized by Dudjom Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche). The tripartite campus unites the Earth Peace Arbor (living ceremonial council hearth), the Temple of the Adawis (inner contemplative sanctum and crystal mandalas), and the consecrated Sunray Peace Stupa (an energetic geomagnetic anchor). We trace how this trans-lineage synthesis maps precise ontological symmetries across the Primordial Ground (Unelanahi / Dharmakaya), Acoustic Energy (Elohi sound songs / Sambhogakaya mantra), and Manifest Substrate (Elemental body / Nirmanakaya), demonstrating that indigenous restorative peacemaking and advanced Indo-Tibetan contemplative technologies form a coherent, scalable paradigm for planetary conflict resolution and ecological stewardship.
