La experiencia íntima de otras maternidades en la dramaturgia de Clàudia Cedó (Como una perra en un descampado y Madre de azúcar)
In Como una perra en un descampado [Like a Dog in a Wasteland] [2020], Clàudia Cedó tackles perinatal death, recounting Júlia's experience (inspired by Cedó's own experience) and challenging taboos surrounding motherhood. In Madre de azúcar [Mother of Sugar] [2022], developed in collaboration with Escenaris Especials, Cedó explores motherhood among women with cognitive disabilities, highlighting the stories of Cloe and Consuelo, inspired by real experiences that emerged during workshops preceding the production. These works reveal the struggles of other forms of motherhood in a system that stigmatizes and limits them. Cedó brings to light realities that are excluded and relegated to the shadows of reproductive norms. These works feature protagonists whose intimate and painful stories are presented with the potential for narrativity to create symbolic cosmogonies of other motherhoods, and they are configured in their interventions as authoritative speakers or spokespersons. As a playwright, Cedó exercises this prerogative across various works and challenges established theatrical and social norms. This article explores how Cedó intertwines the public and the private in her works by incorporating intimate experiences of motherhood, questioning the traditional representations of motherhood in various social discourses that uphold a naturalistic reproductive order, and examining the political role of her visibility in theater.
