This article examines the role of theatre costume in constructing and transmitting the memory of the performing arts, drawing on the exhibition Tisser le Temps: Histoire et Création du Costume Théâtral Marocain (Weaving Time: History and Creation of Moroccan Theatre Costume), presented in 2024 as part of the National Theatre Festival of Tetouan. Given the ephemeral nature of theatrical performance, costume emerges as a material trace capable of preserving the memory of the production, of the actor's body and of the creative process. In this sense, it can be regarded as a genuine "living archive". The article also analyses the role of exhibition design in this process of heritagisation. Conceived as a narrative and interpretive device, the exhibition design of Tisser le Temps brought together costumes, sketches, artistic research, photographs and making tools in order to make visible the often overlooked work of costume designers. Bringing together eight designers from different generations, the exhibition offered a reading of more than sixty years of Moroccan theatre-making, while highlighting the transmission of craft knowledge and the evolution of aesthetics. Through this experience, the article argues for the need to preserve costumes and creative archives in order to build a lasting memory of Moroccan theatre, and shows how exhibition design can become a genuine tool of heritagisation. Abstract
