Transforming lung cancer care in Canada: The emerging role of nursing across the lung cancer continuum
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in Canada, with almost as many people dying from lung cancer as from breast, colon, and prostate cancer combined (Brenner et al., 2024; Canadian Cancer Statistics Advisory Committee, 2023). Despite this enormous burden of disease, the experience and outcomes of lung cancer care are changing dramatically (National Lung Screening Trial Research Team, 2011). Historically, lung cancer was frequently associated with late-stage presentation and poor survival. Today, lung cancer has among the fastest improving survival rates in oncology (de Koning et al., 2020).
