Hypothesis of a Finite Universe With an Inaccessible Boundary

Can a finite, expanding universe have a spherical boundary that no signal from inside can reach? This article constructs such a domain within general relativity and derives the exact interior response to a scalar pulse prescribed at its null boundary. A numerical benchmark verifies the propagation. An infinite extension reproduces the same signal, showing why detecting the pulse alone would not establish that space ends at the boundary.

Abstract

Can a finite, expanding universe have a spherical boundary that no signal from inside can reach? This article constructs such a domain within general relativity and derives the exact interior response to a scalar pulse prescribed at its null boundary. A numerical benchmark verifies the propagation. An infinite extension reproduces the same signal, showing why detecting the pulse alone would not establish that space ends at the boundary.
