Silver(I) Coordination Polymer‐Regulated Active Layer for Translucent Organic Photovoltaic Devices

ABSTRACT The growing demand for renewable energy sources has stimulated interest in semi‐transparent photovoltaic devices for building‐integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technologies, which can be integrated into windows, skylights, and greenhouses to harvest sunlight while allowing natural light transmission. However, achieving a balance between optical transparency and solar cell efficiency remains a challenge in the design of semi‐transparent organic solar cells (OSCs). In this study, the silver(I) coordination polymer ( SP1 ) was incorporated with poly(9,9′‐dioctylfluorene) (PFO) polymer as the active layer of the fabricated OSC device to investigate its potential for translucent photovoltaic applications. The d 10 electronic configuration of silver ions adopted a linear coordination geometry when the silver nitrate was reacted with the phosphine ligand under solvothermal conditions. The resulting active layer, SF1 , is composed of a nanoscale, interpenetrating donor–acceptor network consisting of PFO polymer as the electron‐donor and the silver(I) coordination polymer as the electron‐acceptor. FTIR and PXRD quantitative analyses were utilized to verify the chemical composition and structural differences between SP1 and SF1 . Significant absorption and electron excitation in the ultraviolet region were observed when the silver(I) coordination polymer was analyzed via the UV–Vis and PL spectroscopies. Furthermore, the fabricated OSC device exhibited an average visible transmittance (AVT) of up to 68.23%, confirming its semitransparent nature and demonstrating the transmission of visible light while enabling electricity generation across the device. The current–voltage ( J ‐ V ) characteristics of the OSC device with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Active layer/Au architecture yielded a conversion efficiency of 1.22% under the solar illumination intensity of 100 mW/cm 2 .
