Analysis of Caesarean Sectio Deliveries at Hospital Partnered with BPJS Kesehatan 2015 - 2020

Cesarean Section (CS) is an important obstetric procedure used to manage specific maternal and fetal conditions. The increasing utilization of cesarean section services under the National Health Insurance (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, JKN) program necessitates an evaluation of case characteristics, severity levels, length of hospital stay, and healthcare costs. This study aimed to analyze cesarean section deliveries at hospitals partnering with BPJS Kesehatan from 2015 to 2020 and to examine the association between severity levels and length of hospital stay. This study used secondary data from the BPJS Kesehatan Sample Dataset for 2015–2020, which covered 1% of healthcare service records. A quantitative, non-experimental approach with a descriptive cross-sectional design was employed. Total sampling was used, yielding 21,621 cases classified under INA-CBG code O-6-10. The analysis examined patient characteristics, severity levels, length of hospital stay, claim costs, and the associations of severity level and age with length of hospital stay. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Of the 21,621 cesarean section cases, 18,424 were classified as mild, 3,126 as moderate, and 71 as severe. The 20–35-year age group accounted for the largest number of cases, totaling 16,493. A hospital stay of three days was the most common, occurring in 8,938 cases. The highest average claim cost was observed in severe cesarean section cases, amounting to IDR 8,023,983. Severity level was significantly associated with length of hospital stay (*p* = 0.001), as was age (*p* = 0.017). Both severity level and age were associated with the length of hospital stay among patients undergoing cesarean section. These findings may serve as a basis for evaluating healthcare service management and controlling cesarean section costs at hospitals partnering with BPJS Kesehatan.

The increasing utilization of cesarean section services under the National Health Insurance (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, JKN) program necessitates an evaluation of case characteristics, severity levels, length of hospital stay, and healthcare costs.
