Sociabilidad y movilización republicana en la Restauración: la conmemoración republicana del 11 de febrero en Barcelona (1875-1905)

The aim of the following article is to study the republican commemoration of February 11, in memory of the proclamation of the First Spanish Republic in 1873, in Barcelona between 1875 and 1905. This commemoration was usually celebrated in restaurants, theatres and republican centers through banquets or political soirées. The hypothesis of this research is that the development of the commemoration in the private space, because of the public order provisions of the restorationist authorities, made the commemoration become a sounding board for thought of a republican leader and party. This aggravated the division of republican families and within each one of them. Finally, we want to suggest that the republican political culture fragmentation in the Restoration, beyond the confrontation between leaders and parties as traditionally considered, could also be a consequence of the fact that republicanism was forced to develop forms of sociability and movement in accordance with the limits imposed by the system that would increase republican political fragmentation.
