A Conceptual Model of the Transformation of Accounting under the Influence of Blockchain Technology

As digital technologies redefine the way economic and financial information is recorded, verified, and reported, accounting is adapting its principles, tools, and practices to new trends that demand greater transparency, security, and data traceability. Since traditional accounting is characterized by successive checks and validations, blockchain technology is gaining relevance because it allows information to be stored in a distributed ledger that is difficult to alter retroactively and accessible to all authorized participants. Blockchain can have a direct impact on accounting processes, thanks to characteristics such as traceability, immutability, decentralization, and the potential for automation through smart contracts. The purpose of this research is to propose an explanatory conceptual model regarding the impact of blockchain technology on the field of accounting, reflecting its key characteristics, moderating factors, risks, and implementation barriers, as well as the expected outcomes resulting from its technological transformation. Thus, the contribution of this research lies in presenting an integrated analytical framework applicable to both researchers and accounting professionals interested in the digitization of the accounting field.
