Topical antifungals in dermatology: Brief overview
Fungal species are associated with humans as commensals or pathogenic organisms. There has been a rising trend of dermatophyte infections across India over the last decade. Topical antifungals play an important role in treating superficial fungal infections. In patients with comorbidities where systemic agents are contraindicated, topical antifungals are the only modality available. However, in situations such as extensive infections or inaccessible sites, they need to be combined with systemic antifungals.
