Reconstructed baryon transition current structure of the N(1520) magnetic dipole amplitude: Insights from Patterson function analysis

The internal organization of baryon transition currents contains information on nucleon excitations that is not directly evident from transition form factors alone. In the present study, Patterson function analysis is employed to reconstruct the transition-current structure associated with the N(1520) magnetic dipole amplitude. The reconstructed image reveals a predominantly positive distribution concentrated within a highly compact region. The reconstructed transition-current density exhibits a sharp central peak of approximately 4019 fm⁻³ and a half-maximum radius of only 0.0362 fm. Comparison between the original Patterson profile and the profile obtained from the reconstructed image demonstrates excellent agreement, indicating that the principal structural characteristics of the transition current have been successfully reproduced. When compared with other baryon transition-current reconstructions obtained using the same methodology, the N(1520) magnetic dipole amplitude is found to possess one of the smallest characteristic spatial scales. These results further demonstrate the utility of Patterson function analysis as a model-independent imaging method for investigating the internal architecture of nucleon-resonance transition currents.
