The Share and Specific Features of Territorial Units in the External Labour Migration of Uzbekistan (2015–2025)

This article presents a fundamental scientific analysis of the share and specific features of territorial units in the external labour migration of Uzbekistan during 2015–2025. Using the 14 territorial units of Uzbekistan as a case, the study examines the territorial distribution of labour migration and its economic, demographic and social determinants. The data analysis shows that Fergana, Andijan, Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions account for more than 50 per cent of the total migration flow. The Russian Federation remains the leading destination country with a share of 60–71 per cent. Remittances reached 16.9 billion US dollars in 2022, equivalent to 17.1 per cent of gross domestic product. On the basis of an inter-regional comparison, the main factors influencing labour migration are identified and policy recommendations are developed.
