The Missing Future in Alfonso Cuarón’s “Children of Men”
The article offers a cinematic analysis of Alfonso Cuarón’s film “Children of Men” (2006), focusing on the way in which the lack of a future is constructed through the means of cinematic language. The study shifts the focus from the prevailing political-philosophical interpretations of the film to its audiovisual organization, examining image, space, sound, and camera movement as interconnected forms of historical experience. It traces how the absence of future generations changes the conditions of perception of the world and transforms historical timelessness into a sensory experience. Thus, the article defends the thesis that cinema not only represents ideas but also produces knowledge through its own means of expression.
