SEISMIC ASSESSMENT AND STRENGTHENING OF EXISTING MASONRY BUILDING

In the Herzegovina region, there is a large number of buildings with masonry walls made of stone blocks as the main vertical load-bearing elements. These walls are mostly constructed from dressed and semi-dressed stone, bonded with lime mortar. The floor structures very often consist of wooden load-bearing beams with planks nailed over them, while the space between the beams is partially filled with rubble.Analized building was constructed between 1924 and 1929.Through static and dynamic analysis of the structure, the level and method of strengthening for individual parts of the structure were determined.Regulations require that the structure satisfies the limit states of Damage Limitation (DL) and Significant Damage (SD).For this purpose, a nonlinear static (pushover) analysis was performed to verify the fulfillment of these two criteria.A preliminary linear dynamic analysis was also conducted, which likewise showed that the building structure does not meet the required seismic resistance. From all of the above, it can be concluded that the structure of the building needs to be strengthened. This strengthening primarily applies to stone walls.Seismic Assessment and Strengthening of Existing Masonry Building https://iaeme.com/Home/journal/IJCIET66 editor
