Body Dissatisfaction Among Postmenopausal Women Who Completed Nine Months of Resistance Training: Prevalence and Associated Factors

Background: Body dissatisfaction is highly prevalent among postmenopausal women, but evidence regarding its prevalence among women who participate in long-term resistance training remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of body dissatisfaction and its associated characteristics among postmenopausal women who completed nine months of resistance training. Methods: This cross-sectional study included postmenopausal women who participated in a resistance training program (n = 46). Sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric indicators, additional self-reported physical activity outside the supervised resistance-training program, and quality of life were assessed using the respective measures. Body image was assessed using a silhouette scale. Results: Among the 46 postmenopausal women who completed nine months of resistance training, the prevalence of body dissatisfaction was 78.3% (36/46; 95% CI: 64.4–87.7%). Among the 36 women classified as dissatisfied, 97.2% (35/36) reported dissatisfaction due to perceived excess body weight. No statistically significant associations were detected between body dissatisfaction and the investigated sociodemographic, anthropometric, physical-activity, or quality-of-life variables. Conclusion: A high prevalence of body dissatisfaction was identified among postmenopausal women who completed the resistance training program, with no significant associations observed with the investigated variables.
