Improving undergraduates study ability of occupational health and occupational medicine comprehensive experiment applying objectives and key results method

Based on the urgent need to cultivate occupational health action ability in recent years, this study adopted the key Objectives and Key Results (OKR) to explore the practical effect of its application in the comprehensive experimental teaching of“Occupational health and occupational medicine (OHOM)”. We made full use of existing teaching resources, promoted the reform of experimental teaching, and improved the experimental teaching level and experimental ability of undergraduate students majoring in preventive medicine. We randomly selected 60 fourth‑year undergraduate students from two classes of the preventive medicine major to carry out the comprehensive experimental teaching of OHOM. The traditional teaching mode and OKR assessment method were used respectively to observe the teaching effect. There were 15 males (50.00%) and 15 females (50.00%) in the control group. There were 17 males (56.67%) and 13 females (43.33%) in the study group. We established an OKR teaching model for the comprehensive dust exposure experiment in the course of OHOM, including the design of teaching procedures, the arrangement of key steps, and specific evaluation methods. Through practical exploration, we found that in the OKR teaching experimental group, 26.67% and 23.33% of students respectively believed that this teaching mode could improve their learning efficiency and comprehensive learning ability. We obtained a certain understanding of students’ mastery of experimental knowledge and found that the experimental group had a significantly greater mastery of experimental knowledge than the control group did, and OKR had an obvious effect on students’ mastery of experimental knowledge. On the other hand, through the OKR teaching method, students’ learning satisfaction is significantly improved. Both traditional teaching mode and OKR evaluation method have good teaching effect, OKR teaching effect is better than traditional teaching method, comprehensive experiment score is significantly higher than traditional method ( P < 0.05). The practical teaching of the OHOM comprehensive experimental course highlights, to a certain extent, the advantages of its professional characteristics, strengthens the teaching of experimental skills, and integrates the OKR assessment method. It can serve as an important supplement to and resource expansion of traditional classroom learning, and holds considerable value for promotion in improving the quality of comprehensive experimental teaching.
