DIAGNOSTIC EFFICACY OF EXTENDED COLPOSCOPY IN THE EARLY DETECTION OF PRECANCEROUS LESIONS AND CERVICAL CANCER

Background. Cervical cancer remains one of the major challenges in modern gynecologic oncology. Timely detection of precancerous lesions and early-stage malignant disease can improve treatment effectiveness and patient prognosis. Extended colposcopy is an important diagnostic method for identifying pathological changes in the cervix. It enables visualization of suspicious epithelial areas and helps determine the optimal site for a targeted biopsy. Objective. To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of extended colposcopy in detecting high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer. Materials and Methods. A comparative study model involving 100 women aged 25–65 years is presented. Group I consisted of 50 patients with benign cervical conditions, while Group II included 50 patients with histologically confirmed high-grade precancerous lesions or cervical cancer. The diagnostic evaluation included cervical cytology, extended colposcopy, and colposcopy-directed biopsy followed by histopathological examination. Results. Based on hypothetical data, differences in colposcopic findings between the two groups were demonstrated, along with an illustrative calculation of the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the method. Conclusion. Extended colposcopy is an important diagnostic method that facilitates the identification of suspicious epithelial areas and improves the diagnostic value of targeted biopsy. Definitive diagnosis is based on histopathological examination.
