Distinguishing Students from Disciples: An Examination of Traditional Clan Master-Disciple Succession and Modern Educational Systems Based on "Physical Foundations"
This study explores the essential differences in educational logic between the traditional Chinese clan master-disciple succession system and the modern higher education system. The research explicitly proposes that "students are not disciples." Under the modern educational system, the relationship between a student and a mentor is essentially a contractual exchange confined to the classroom. In contrast, disciples within the traditional clan system are deeply embedded in the all-encompassing spheres of both life and study. By comparing the spatial boundaries, entry credentials, existential dependencies, and "true transmission" mechanisms of three tiers of disciples (nominal, outer-room, and inner-room) with the "classroom students" of modern institutions, and combining this with objective historical facts of master-disciple relationships, this paper demonstrates the incommensurability of their institutional genes. The study posits that the legitimacy of academic titles cannot exist independently of their corresponding physical foundations. Only by clarifying the boundaries between name and reality and returning to rigorous institutional common sense and objective empirical evidence can we avoid conceptual confusion and logical ruptures in academic research. Note: This paper is an independent methodological construction based on objective common sense and global logical verification. All empirical verifications and deductions herein are grounded in the physical foundations of civilizational evolution and institutional common sense, aiming to provide a unified verification standard for Sinological research. This paper focuses on original theoretical propositions and logical closure. It is the result of the author's independent research.
