AI Hallucinations

Artificial Intelligence has really transformed areas like healthcare, legal services, education, finance, and business. But its quick spread also brings persistent tech troubles, mainly the confusing issue of AI mistakes, errors, and misinformation. Large Language Models (LLMs) can handle all sorts of tasks, from text creation and code writing to answering questions and summarizing info. Still, despite their big achievements, LLMs sometimes spout incorrect stuff – factually wrong or made-up content – which is called "hallucination." This paper dives deep into AI failures, showing how they differ based on errors in logic, generated fiction presented confidently, and correct data being misinterpreted. It looks at why AI systems act overly sure of themselves, how messy training data messes up, and ideas for fixing this like boosted retrieval methods, cleaner training data, and humans checking the work. What stands out is that these glitches aren't just random tech snafus. Instead, they're a design quirk of big AI language models. Fixing them demands teamwork from folks in various fields, not just developers. So, while there are big issues, figuring out ways to collaborate could make these systems way more reliable in the future.
