A Closer Look at the Constructor: Dr. Diagor and Professor Corcoran
The article aims to closely compare the fictional characters of Dr. Diagor and Professor Corcoran in order to explore the figure of the Constructor, a recurring role in science fiction literature. The conducted comparative analysis identifies a number of similarities and differences between the selected agents, primarily examined through the lens of the two scientists’ working environments. At its core lies the question of their relationship, as well as the constitutive function of the experiment with regard to the Constructor’s position. The motif of the artificial being’s rebellion and the creator’s associated failure is examined through the implicit idea of the machine’s evolutionary destiny.
