Competency-Based Teacher Education: Insights through the Lens of Policies
This study examines the diverse policies and frameworks governing Competency-Based Teacher Education (CBTE) through a comprehensive review of the literature, policy documents, and theoretical approaches. Using a descriptive and analytical approach, we explore CBTE's conceptual foundations, its alignment with 21st-century educational demands, and the challenges of implementation. This study aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on improving CBTE policies to ensure sustainable, high-quality teacher training in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. The research synthesizes global and regional policies, frameworks, and best practices to identify key components essential for effective CBTE integration, including competency frameworks, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and assessment processes. The study highlights the significance of policy initiatives that promote teachers' holistic development, emphasize performance demonstration, and address technological and assessment barriers. Through this approach, trainees acquire key competencies throughout the curriculum and may demonstrate proficiency after completing a teacher education program. The study revealed a shift from traditional to outcome-based teacher education models, offering strategic insights to help policymakers, educators, and stakeholders effectively develop competent, adaptable teachers.
