AI-Assisted Conversation Practice in Developing EFL Learners' Speaking Skills

This article examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted conversation practice in developing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ speaking skills. It focuses on the potential of AI-powered conversational tools to facilitate speaking practice, improve oral fluency, enhance pronunciation accuracy, expand vocabulary, and strengthen learners’ confidence in verbal communication. Particular attention is given to the pedagogical value of interactive dialogue, immediate corrective feedback, personalized learning experiences, and opportunities for autonomous language practice. The article also considers the challenges associated with integrating AI-assisted conversation into EFL instruction, including the reliability of automated feedback, the limitations of AI-generated interactions, and the importance of maintaining meaningful human communication. It argues that AI-assisted conversation practice can serve as a valuable supplementary approach to language teaching when integrated with clear instructional objectives, appropriate pedagogical strategies, and teacher guidance.
