Assessment of knowledge regarding contraception among married women at community level

Contraception has been the most significant intervention in reducing the incidence of unwanted pregnancies and promoting healthy living among young adults. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 151 participants were selected using a convenient sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire consisting of a demographic tool and Knowledge Questionnaire. Ethical approval was obtained, and informed consent was taken from all participants. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. The study showed that the majority (47%) of the women were between the ages of 25–34 years. Educational background revealed that a large proportion (62.3%) had no formal education. Regarding occupation, most of the participants (65.6%) were housewives, and majority had monthly family income between PKR 40,001–60,000, while 44.4% of women had 3–4 children. Additionally, 48.3% of women had been married for 1–5 years, while 25.8% had been married for 6–10 years. Regarding knowledge of contraception, an overwhelming majority of the participants (91.4%) had poor knowledge, and only 8.6% had moderate knowledge, highlighting a significant gap in awareness and education on family planning methods among women in this population. The study concluded that majority of women demonstrated poor knowledge regarding contraception, indicating a significant gap in reproductive health awareness.
