Os desafios da internacionalização da pós-graduação na Amazônia Legal

The internationalization of universities represents a strategic opportunity to establish partnerships and foster research that addresses the needs of regions marked by socioeconomic inequalities. This article analyzes the challenges of internationalizing graduate education in the Legal Amazon. The methodology is based on the analysis of evaluation documents of Graduate Programs (PPG) with an international profile, as classified by the Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes). The results indicate that only 0.44% of the PPG in the Legal Amazon have an international profile, highlighting the obstacles faced, particularly the limited autonomy resulting from the demands of funding agencies. Nevertheless, the programs have been responding to regional challenges through strategic research focused on themes such as biodiversity and environmental issues. In this context, internationalization should be guided by a Southern epistemology, recognizing and valuing the region’s cultural diversity. It is concluded that the PPG are adopting specific strategies and forging international partnerships, demonstrating an active adaptation to the internationalization process and contributing to the reduction of socioeconomic disparities in the Legal Amazon.

Nevertheless, the programs have been responding to regional challenges through strategic research focused on themes such as biodiversity and environmental issues. In this context, internationalization should be guided by a Southern epistemology, recognizing and valuing the region’s cultural diversity.
