Micromixing effects on (2,0)-order reaction in a CSTR with unmixed feed – evaluation of CD and IEM models

The Monte Carlo coalescence re-dispersion Model (CD) of Spielman and Levenspiel for micro-mixing effects in a CSTR is extended to study the effects of Damköhler number, micro-mixing parameter and volumetric feed rate ratio of reactants on conversion due to an irreversible (2,0) order reaction taking place in a CSTR with unmixed feed. A comparison of the results obtained by using the CD model with the predictions obtained by using the Interaction by Exchange with the mean (IEM) model shows that the equivalence relationship between the parameters of the two models proposed by Aubry and Villermaux is not valid. The difference between the values of conversion at extreme values of volumetric feed rate ratio predicted by using the two models is very large, and the trend of results predicted by IEM model with respect to variation in the volumetric feed rate ratio is unrealistic.
