Estimation of Genetic Parameters for Yield and Yield Components in Dolichos Bean (Lablab purpureus L.)

Dolichos bean (Lablab purpureus L.) is an important leguminous vegetable in which genetic variability for yield-related traits is essential for effective selection. The present experiment was conducted to determine genetic variability for yield and yield-related traits in dolichos bean at the Experimental Farm of the Department of Horticulture, Ranchi Agriculture College, Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi (Jharkhand). The experimental material comprised 45 genotypes along with four check varieties, which were evaluated for 17 quantitative yield-related traits under an augmented block design without replication. The genotype AMAD-15 (66.65 cm) recorded the maximum plant height, whereas the minimum was recorded for AMAD-24 (34.56 cm). The genotype AMAD-28 (312.40) recorded the highest number of pods plant-1, followed by AMAD-34 (225.20) and AMAD-25 (225.00). Green pod yield hectare-1 was highest for genotype AMAD-50 (165.52 q/ha), followed by AMAD-52 (131.65 q/ha) and HADB-119 (C3) (130.65 q/ha). In contrast, AMAD-44 (45.40 q/ha) recorded the lowest yield among all the genotypes. High PCV and GCV were observed for 10-pod weight, number of pods per plant, yield per plant, yield per hectare, and number of flowers per cluster, indicating substantial variability in these traits and potential scope for selection. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as a percentage of the mean was observed for several traits, indicating substantial genetic variability and potential for effective selection. Significant differences were observed among the genotypes for the traits studied. The combination of high heritability and genetic advance observed for several traits indicates substantial genetic variation and suggests good scope for selection based on phenotypic performance.
