The Karakhanid State: Political History, Governance, Turkic-Islamic Culture and Economic Development

This article examines the formation, political history, governance, interaction between Turkic and Islamic political traditions, urban culture, economic life, and architectural legacy of the Karakhanid state (10th to early 13th centuries). The study stresses the need to compare Arabic and Persian written sources, works in Turkic languages, numismatic material, archaeological monuments, and the findings of modern historiography. The ethno-political origins of the Karakhanids, the process of Islamization, and the legitimation of dynastic power are treated not as unambiguous phenomena but as complex historical processes. The article also considers the cultural achievements of the period, including Yusuf Khass Hajib's Qutadgu Bilig, Mahmud al-Kashgari's Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk, and the historical significance of the period's architectural monuments.
