Surgical Management of a Giant Oropharyngeal Angiolipoma Presenting With Severe Dysphagia: A Case Report

Lipomas of the oropharynx are rare, accounting for less than 5% of benign oropharyngeal neoplasms. Most remain asymptomatic until they grow large enough to cause obstructive symptoms. Oropharyngeal angiolipomas are extremely rare and can present with life-altering symptoms such as dysphagia. Prompt diagnosis and complete surgical excision yield acceptable outcomes. We report the case of a 59-year-old male presenting with a one-year history of progressive dysphagia and significant weight loss. Endoscopic evaluation and imaging revealed a pedunculated mass originating from the oropharynx. The lesion was successfully excised via a transoral approach following preoperative tracheostomy. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of an angiolipoma. Postoperatively, the patient experienced complete resolution of dysphagia and regained weight during follow-up visits.
