The evolution of management accounting has transitioned from traditional financial reporting to a strategic role in enhancing organizational performance. This paper explores the significance of Activity-Based Costing (ABC) as a crucial tool for modern businesses, particularly within Japanese multinational corporations (MNCs). ABC addresses the shortcomings of conventional costing methods by accurately allocating overhead costs to specific activities, thereby improving decision-making and resource management. The globalization of markets and technological advancements have accelerated ABC's adoption, enabling organizations to refine pricing strategies and enhance profitability analyses. Despite its advantages, implementing ABC poses unique challenges, especially for Japanese MNCs, where traditional management styles may hinder innovation. This study employs a dual methodology, combining secondary literature reviews with primary case studies of a Japanese manufacturing MNC, to investigate these challenges and propose solutions. Findings reveal that while ABC can significantly improve cost management and operational efficiency, its complexity and the need for management support complicate its adoption. The paper culminates in recommendations for MNCs to enhance their accounting practices, focusing on refining global tax strategies and mitigating risks. By addressing the challenges of ABC implementation, this research contributes to the broader discourse on management accounting, emphasizing its strategic implications for Japanese firms in a competitive global landscape to advocates for a more integrated approach to management accounting that aligns with contemporary business dynamics, fostering sustainable growth and operational excellence.
