A Field Survey of Fire Protection System Installation in Unattended Retail Stores by Building Size in the Seoul Metropolitan Area

This study analyzed the installation status of fire protection systems in unattended retail stores according to building size, and examined fire safety improvement measures based on field survey results. As the number of unattended stores increases, the absence of onsite personnel may delay early fire detection and response. Relevant regulations and fire cases were reviewed, and 40 unattended retail stores in the Seoul Metropolitan Area were surveyed. The results showed differences in fire protection system installation according to the building size, with lower installation rates of automatic fire detection and sprinkler systems in small and low-rise buildings. CCTV systems were installed in all the surveyed stores, and remote monitoring functions using mobile applications and communication networks were observed in many stores. Based on these findings, the use of existing CCTV and remote management infrastructure for fire detection and manager notification is proposed, but its performance requires further validation.
